I know the time says I'm posting on the 16th, but for most of the rest of the world it's still the 15th, so.

Title: The Art of Losing
Pairing: none (Mikey Way, Tim Riggins)
Length: +7k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nokomis305
Author Website: author's tags
Why this must be read:

It's bodyswapping crack. My Chem are massive comic book dorks. Tim Riggins is himself. There is a villian who is made of fail. Really just, one of my favourite things about Bandom and bandslash is what dorks MCR are, and this is pretty much all about that. Read it, it'll make you smile.

Vidder: Obsessive24
Musical Artist: The Shins
Pairing: Tim Riggins/Lyla Garrity/Jason Street
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24

Why this vid kicks ass: I didn't rec any Jason/Lyla/Tim fic because I knew at the end of the month I could point you to this vid. FNL gives us all the OT3 we could ever need and Obsessive24 puts it together beautifully.

Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Tami Taylor/Eric Taylor
Length: 3000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] indysaur
Author Website: fic tag
Why this must be read: Other than the symmetry of my starting and ending my fic recs with Coach/Mrs.Coach? [really, I'm a geek like that] You can hear the character voices, you can see each and every setting, the detail is exquisite. This fic is just about perfect and it deserves a read.

I've got one more rec to go this month, for the drive-in -- I hope you've found something new to read, something that made you laugh or cry or flap your hands and yell out, "yes, that's it!" because all of these fics have moved me in some way or another and I wanted to share that with you.

Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Matt Saracen/Julie Taylor
Length: 2144
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] random00b
Author Website: fic tag
Why this must be read: Because the five things challenge is one of the best pan-fandom challenges in existence. Because Matt and Julie will never not be cute, snarky, funny, and sweet. Because the voices are sharp and we see them at various ages and stages.

Length: 795

Why this must be read: I'm a sucker for pre-series fics. Especially fics that address the friendship between Tim and Jason. This is sweet, short [like a young Jason] and very poignant. You can see today's boys in their past and it makes the heart clench too.

Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Landry Clarke, Tim Riggins
Length: 1400
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] them0rgue
Author Website: in memories, sorted by fandom
Why this must be read: Because it's *Landry* and *Tim* and the two of them, snarking back and forth will never not be made of awesome. It's late on a Friday night, Tim goes searching for pie and finds Landry doing homework in a 24 hour diner. They rag on each other, talk about girls, and eat pie. What is not to love?

Why this must be read: A glimpse of everyone in canon and non-canon situations, with super crisp voices and spot-on characterizations. There's something here for everyone. And I do mean everyone.

17th-Oct-2008 12:37 pm Verboten, Restraint - Svilleficrecs, PG-13, R
Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Matt Saracen/Julie Taylor
Length: Verboten 2700, Restraint 7600
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] svilleficrecs
Author Website: tagged by fandom at delicious
Why this must be read: There's a moment in life when you're young and innocent and you want to explore your sexuality but you're not quite ready yet. French kissing is more erotic than achieving orgasm, holding hands as sensual as erotic massage. It's a fleeting phase in life because eventually, most people cross that line of innocence and it's difficult to return to light petting once that happens. In this pair of fics, Svilleficrecs captures that moment and freezes it in all its fragile glory.

Pairing: Tim Riggins/Dean Winchester
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thisisbone
Author Website: Slash Fan Fiction by Bone and DevilC can be found here
Why this must be read: I've been waiting ALL month to rec this story. It's the perfect FNL primer for a non-watching SPN fan. It's the perfect SPN primer for the non-watching FNL fan. Bone helpfully provides images in case you're unfamiliar with any of the characters. It's smart. It's sexy. It's hysterical. They even deal with Adrienne Palicki being on both shows.

Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Lyla Garrity
Length: 1200
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cartwheel_dizzy
Author Website: In Memories
Why this must be read: In season two, a lot of Lyla's character development happened in scenes that hit the cutting room floor. Not a fan favorite from the start, the missing scenes left the audience scratching their heads and disliking her even more. In this character study Cartwheel_dizzy does an exceptional job of getting inside Lyla's head and taking us on the journey of Lyla finding religion. I can't promise you'll like her at the end of the fic if you didn't like her at the beginning, but I can promise her season two storyline will make a lot more sense.

10th-Oct-2008 11:10 am I Know Who I Did Last Summer, DevilC, Adult
Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Tim Riggins/Stratton Sisters [two OFCs]
Length: 2400
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] devilc
Author Website: Website or Insane Journal

Why this must be read: Of all the fandoms I've been in, played in, and skirted the edges of FNL is the *least* porny. It's mind boggling. All these beautiful, hot, horny, teenagers [parents and older siblings too!] and no one's having sex. How is it we have a shirtless, canonical horn-dog like Tim Riggins and hardly anyone ever sexes him up?

DevilC takes matters into her own hands and puts Timmy into a very hot 3-way. Warnings for porn and mild incest.

Author Website: Master List of Fic
Why this must be read: Because Matt Saracen doesn't get enough love from anyone, except his Grandma, and even then he's so busy taking care of her that he has a hard time seeing it. It's impossible to pick the most heart-breaking character on this show, but Saracen is definitely in the running. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, so much so you can see him physically straining under the weight. I had hoped season 2 would be easier for him than season 1 but it wasn't. This fic takes a look at Saracen through out season 2. It gets inside his head and puts you in his shoes. The voices and characterizations are fabulous.

3rd-Oct-2008 12:01 pm SmashnStreet, Hackthis, PG
Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Gen. Characters: Jason Street, Brian "Smash" Williams, Herc
Length: 3000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: dysFUNCTIONAL
Why this must be read: Because for whatever reason, there is not a lot of fiction out there that has Smash as a main character. He may be the spice, the flavor -- or to borrow a sports term -- the color commentary, but it's not about *him*. Delicious only has three fics tagged with his name and that breaks my heart.

The fic is set mid-season one [like most fic I'm reccing] when all we really knew about Smash was how far he'd go to fulfill his dream. He's snarky, full of himself, and the word humble isn't in his vocabulary. He takes it upon himself to visit Jason at the rehab center and we get an intimate look at their relationship past and present. Racism colors it like it does most things in Dillon, TX, but neither of the boys lets that interfere with their interaction.

This fic is laugh out old funny. It's emotional. It slaps you in the face with its honesty. It makes you fall in love with it. It doesn't apologize for any of those things. Just like FNL.

1st-Oct-2008 08:51 pm the romance of west texas never gave me good advice by minervacat, R
Hi! I'm B and I'll be driving the van for Friday Night Lights this month. I'm going to rec het, slash, femmeslash, and gen. I'm not going to focus on any one character or pairing and I hope that I can direct you to fics you may have missed.

Episode 1 season 3 is airing *right now* on DirectTV and for those of us who aren't lucky enough to have satellite I thought I'd start with something that takes us pre-series.

Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Coach/Mrs. Coach -- Eric Taylor/Tami Taylor
Length: 2000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] minervacat
Author Website: When the Floods Roll Back
Why this must be read: Tami and Eric have one of -- to my mind -- the most realistic married relationships depicted on tv, *ever*. They love and trust one another. They respect each other's strengths and acknowledge weaknesses. They're sexy, funny, and genuinely love and are in love with one another and this fic shows every angle of that beautifully. And their bickering? Is not to be missed. It's also 90% ad libbed, in case you didn't know.

Hi all! I'm Zoe, your Friday Night Lights driver this month. I'm a bit late to this party, but better late than never, right?

Fandom: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: Gen; Jason Street-centric; mentions of past Tim/Lyla
Length: 2600 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis
Author Website: Grooves as Spirals
Why this must be read: ...because it's an absolutely pitch-perfect look at Jason Street, dealing with his accident, the aftermath of Tim and Lyla, and the landscape of his world shifting around him in the wake of his injury. It's the best characterisation of Season 1 Jason that I've read.

It's like there's this huge ravine or something between them, the Grand frigging Canyon, him on one side, Lyla and Riggins and everything that used to make him happy on the other.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Jason/Tim (mentions of Jason/Lyla and Tim/Tyra)
author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] them0rgue
author website: none that I know of
Why this must be read:

This fic will break your heart. It covers Jason and Tim's relationship in the summer leading up to the pilot episode, and it's a painfully realistic take on what a relationship between two closeted teenage football players in small-town Texas would really look like. Tim's characterization in particular is spot-on.

Jay stares down and then looks up suddenly, like there was a snap Tim missed. “Maybe… maybe after.” Jason’s eyes are wide and honest, like he’s never told a lie in his life. “After the season, we can.” )

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Pairing: None
Author on LJ[livejournal.com profile] rachel_wilder
Author Website:http://www.thesamebigsky.com/
Why this mustbe read:
Rachel has a fantastic understanding of the characters, and her voices are spot on as Jason and Tim have their first big outing after Jason's accident. The fear and insecurity are poignant and real, but the deep friendship and affection between Jason and Tim shines through every word.

Gen with a hint of Jason/Tim
author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] hackthis
author website: http://www.obsessedmuch.net/dysfunctional/
why this must be read:

My first rec for Friday Night Lights is this short, lyrical look at the Dillon Panthers relaxing after a grueling practice. The author brilliantly captures the sultry Texas heat and the low-key smolder between Jason Street and Tim Riggins. The dialogue is wonderful and the last line will break your heart a little.
