Title The Step to the Left Affair (PG-13)
Pairing: Illya and many guest stars
Length: 3,500 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Author's works can be found at Castle Keep

Why this must be read:
Sue Castle (formerly known as Brenda Antrim) is well-known for writing one of the classic Man From U.N.C.L.E. stories: The Plausible Deniability Affair. However, that's not the only Man From U.N.C.L.E. story she's written. There is also this one, which is a cross-over with almost anything you can think of:
Andromeda, Chasing Amy, Dawson's Creek, Dogma, From Eroica with Love, Homicide, The Island, Man from UNCLE, Moulin Rouge, Mummy Returns, Queen of Swords, Rat Patrol, The Watcher, Wiseguy and Wolf Lake. And it's funny.

I thought I had reviewed it before, but I didn't see it on the list, so I'm grabbing the chance.

Why this must be read:

This story has a simple premise - Klaus, realizing he will be unable to resist Eroica's constant flirtation any longer, makes him an offer he can't refuse. Eroica gets one night with a cooperative Klaus, and in return, must never bother him again. Of course, things don't go quite as planned, for either man.

Why this must be read:

Klaus loses a bet to Dorian, and his payment is a night of swing dancing. Klaus. Swing dancing. I think that's all I have to say to convince you. There's also some nice tension between them that builds throughout the story to an fun an rather surprising conclusion.

Why this must be read:

If you like your stories long and plotty, this is the one for you. There's espionage and sex and kittens and angst, and it all adds up to a fun and exciting tale. This story is the sequel to Angel, which is much shorter, though still entertaining. I don't think it's necessary to read it first, though.

I like this Dorian, and I especially like that the ending is satisfying even without a concrete "happily ever after."

Why this must be read:

In this story, Dorian and Z get together and finally decide to do something about their mutual attraction to Klaus. I love seduction stories, and this fic works really well in that respect. I also like that we get to see all of the self-consciousness that's involved in a threesome, and especially a relationship with more than two people. Plus, of course, it's hot. Also, check out the author's main page for the sequels.

Why this must be read:

Klaus goes undercover, and as luck may have it, ends up at a Christmas party with Dorian and his family. I like the way that Klaus must struggle to remain in character, even when faced with the infuriating thief. Also, seeing a glimpse of Dorian with his family is interesting, as it shows a new facet of his personality.

Author Website: Kadorienne's Eroica Fic
Why this must be read:

Klaus has made such a terrible mistake that he's exiled himself to Alaska. I like this story, because it shows some of the ways that Dorian would be so GOOD for Klaus, if only Klaus would let him. The Dorian in this story is also very clever and makes a simple task of out-thinking the distressed Major's attempts to shake him. And bonus! There's also a sequel packed with an interesting action plot.

Why this must be read:

Klaus has a bit too much to drink and wakes up in bed with Dorian the next morning. The rest of the story is Klaus steadfastly trying to forget what he knows happened. The story is fun and interesting, as we inch slowly closer to discovering what happened between them.

One of your small fandoms this month will be From Eroica With Love. [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden provided a fantastic fandom overview that you can read here if you're unfamiliar with the canon.

Fandom: FROM EROICA WITH LOVE

Why this must be read:

Since [livejournal.com profile] yuletide author reveals went up yesterday, I figured I would start with the lone Eroica story written for the challenge this year. It's relatively short, but compelling. For Christmas, Dorian finally hits on the perfect Christmas present for Klaus. I wondered what he could find that Klaus would appreciate and was surprised and satisfied with what the author came up with.

Title: Do Blonds Really Have More Fun?
Pairing: Illya Kuryakin/Dorian Red
Author on LJ: not sure
Author Website: BT's Fanfiction

Why this must be read:

It's short. The sex sizzles. And Illya's on top.

The men from U.N.C.L.E. recruit the services of Europe's most infamous art thief. Frustrated at the Major's indifference, Dorian finds himself drawn to a certain blond Russian agent. There's enough background information for MfU fans to get the gist of the Eroica universe, and vice versa.

Fandom: From Eroica With Love
Pairing: Dorian/Klaus
Author's website: fics are hosted at http://www.belladonna.org/eroica.html
Why this must be read: Because it's whimsical and funny, and proves that acting your age can be overrated. It's a sweet romance, and the perfect bedtime story.

"You were playing in my tank." The Major uttered the words with the finality of a death sentence.

To his amazement, the thief blushed a deep, rather attractive rose pink. "Well," he answered defiantly, "what is wrong with that?"

Cantiques de Noël by BT
Fandom: From Eroica With Love
Pairing: Dorian/Klaus
Author Website: http://strangeplaces.net/sylvia/BT.htm
Why this must be read: BT is an author whose Eroica fics date back to that mythical age - pre-Internet. But thanks to Sylvia, her Eroica fic is now hosted online, and thank goodness. It's hard to pick just one, but this particular fic starts with an contemplative Klaus, a strange Christmas, and a broken engagement. It's dreamy and thoughtful, and perfectly accompanied by a pot of tea. If you like this one, there's a lot more where it came from.

"I can change my views. I used to think you were a posturing idiot. Now I think you’re a posturing thief."

"That," said Dorian calmly, "is progress."

Title: Never Too Late by Terri Botta
Fandom: From Eroica With Love
Pairing: Dorian/Klaus
Author Website: The Fan Fiction of Terri Botta

Why This Must Be Read: Unusual for the Eroica fandom, this fic is set in Eroica's future (which, chronologically, is probably our past - I know that was confusing, but stick with me). Dorian and Klaus are no longer the young men they were during the seventies, but Klaus' slow realization of Dorian's faithful devotion makes this a nice wallow of a story. Some people might object to a potentially weepy interpretation of Dorian, but maybe you should just get a cup of tea and settle into a nice intersection of love and angst.

Direct Link: Iron Pokers Into True-Love Knots
Fandom: From Eroica With Love
Pairing: Dorian/Klaus
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kadorienne
Author Website: http://www.belladonna.org/eroica.html

Why this must be read: The real hassle with recommending Kadorienne is choosing which fic to rec - she has extensive knowledge of canon (not an easy thing to do with a manga series that is mostly untranslated), and a particularly lovely interpretation. While I have several favorites among her fics besides this one, it seemed like a good introduction. Kadorienne gets you right inside Klaus' head and tells you why it is, exactly, that an uptight German NATO officer would be in a difficult position if he found himself in love with a certain English thief.

[livejournal.com profile] cesperanza wrote briefly that the difficulty with writing romance today is the lack of obstacles facing characters contemplating a relationship. This is not the case with the Eroica fandom, which chiefly takes place during the 70's within the confines of NATO. So when our heroes manage to overcome all the difficulties in their way, the happy ending is that much sweeter - and Kadorienne excels in that department.
