I do think due South badfic's out there, but the odds are good of your not finding it for a while.
I hardly like any QAF fics, and all other fandoms I know have more weeds than flowers.
I have a lot of experience in many fandoms, and believe me when I say that dS has more good stories on average than other fandoms. There are more long stories of quality, too.
I started out reading QAF fanfic, but I moved on fairly quickly, actually. I cut my fannish teeth on BtVS/AtS slash, and I got quite hardened to the badfic problem. I actually got quite a taste for "bad" stories (i.e,. cliched or Mary Sue-ish or OOC or melodramatic) that were still fun (perhaps unintentionally, hee!). That tolerance was handy when I wandered into the SV and HP fandoms...
