Why this must be read:
Joe takes too many pills, and can't sleep. So of course, he's gotta wake Billy up, too. It tends to get glossed over a lot in fanfic, but the fact of the matter is, Joe's an addict, and it shows here, realistically without any soap opera dramatics. And it's Joe, and it's Billy, and both the dialogue and the need are dead on.

"It's four o'clock in the fuckin' morning. You haven't been to sleep yet?"
"Uh-uh."
"Why not?" His tone of voice is more than suspicious, it's telling me that he already knows the answer.
"Took too many pills."
"Well that was fuckin' smart. How come you never know when to stop?" He's lighting a smoke, and I don't even have to say "gimme one", he just does it out of habit.
"I do, it's just my enough is more than everybody else's."
