Why this must be read:
Because it's about Justin and his relationship with his father, and his relationship with Brian, and Valerie has a talent for writing extremely funny, extremely touching stories. This is the kind of story that makes you tear up while laughing out loud and saying to yourself, "yes, that's it." Also, it has the best written stoned conversation in fandom and a monkey butler. (Spoilers through Season 4 and Buffy Season 7)
Justin held the phone in his hand for a moment and then placed it back onto the base. A distraction would be nice, and it would be healthy, but it would be too soon. The feelings were raw, too close to the surface of his skin for him to be around other people, where it could leak out in a moody sneer or an angry outburst. If life had taught him nothing else, it had taught him how to give an amazing blow job, and it had taught him how to deal with pain. Though maybe, he thought as he settled onto the couch with a sitcom rerun on mute and a pillow under his head, that was Brian, both times.
