The Story is an Abstraction by cgb (NC-17)
Fandom: OZ
Pairing: Beecher/Keller; Beecher/Original Male Character
Author on LJ:
mandysbitch
Author Website: mandysbitch.com
Why this must be read:
This story is a "remix" of a previously rec'ced story called "Chrysalis," by
geneticallydead. The original story itself was a terrific "what if" take on Toby's life if he hadn't fallen for Chris' set-up and didn't break his parole. It was the author's way of rewriting the ending of "Oz" -- or at least, the Beecher/Keller story line.
The remix adds yet another dimension -- several more layers actually. The fanfic author turns Toby into an author, and delves into his thoughts and emotions as he tries to rewrite his own ending. The introduction of Owen, the original male character, adds yet another layer as he tries to determine the ending to the story, too.
To me, it turns out to be a suprisingly satisfying ending -- and that's a testament to the skill of the author (cgb) and her original character and the re-weaving of the story.
