For Auld Aquaintance by Barbara Zuchegna (PG)

First of all, hello and sorry to be so late. I am your Man from Uncle driver for this month but due to a witty combination of moving house and technological incompetence it's taken me a while to get up and running.

My recs are going to be gen as well as slash and will tend to be Ilya centric - this is my revenge on the writers of the Green Opal Affair.

Title: For Auld Aquaintance by Barbara Zuchegna
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: David Mcallum Fans On Line

Why this must be read:

This was the very first piece of fan fiction I ever read and as such is included partly for reasons of nostalgia. BUT it is still good, I either love or hate AU and this is the best kind. It logically extrapolates out from the series to a future where Thrush have achieved their aims and shows the different responses of Ilya and Napoleon. It is fairly short but packs in a credible back story, character exploration and plot.

"Kuryakin has been captured!"

It started as a whisper, a rumor of sound, directionless and insubstantial. Everybody heard it, but nobody knew where it had come from. Everyone who heard it got it from someone who had heard it from someone else, and no one could pin down where it had started"

Depressing, and not at all in character for Napoleon, even in a AU story. If I had read this for my first piece of MFU fanfiction, I' would have had dropped all fanfiction reading at once.

Somehow I've never read this one. I have to agree it's very angsty, but I think it's well-written. I'm also not a big AU person, but this story does stand up.

It does have a few of the features that attract me to the MUNCLE fandom -- the bond between the partners for one thing -- but I don't think I'd mark it as one of my favorites.

However, thanks for the recommendation. It's nice to discover new stories.

A good story, and very much in character for both Napoleon and Illya. It's been a pleasure to discover so much MFU on the net -- I had no idea there was so much out there.
