Why this must be read: This is a quirky little piece in which a reluctant and enormously busy Watari is dragged kicking and flailing to the afterlife; Tatsumi's got his work cut out for him on this particular assignment. The story wasn't proofread (and it shows, although just a little) but it's so filled with joyousness and sparkling geekery that extra polish might've had a deleterious effect.

The researcher's body lay in bed far longer than it should have. The beating heart and breathing lungs refused to admit defeat. For a month or two, the TA's reported sitings of Yutaka in the lab. They said they'd seen him arguing with a well-dressed man in glasses, but the older fellow's told them to sleep it off. 2+2 must always equal 4 was the logic that kept their eyes closed; but a true mathematician would have differed. 2+2 equals 4, except for very large quantities of 2. It was just like Watari to disagree with fate's accountant, and the haunting lasted through spring. Research continued, notes scrawled themselves, and somewhere in Hades a contractor was summoned to remodel a cage.
