Letters Home From The Academy, by Liz Sharpe (PG-13)
Fandom: HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS
Author Website: The Less Than Legendary Journeys
Why this must be read:
A Young Hercules story told in Hercules', Iolaus' and Jason's letters home. I've never seen epistolary form used in this fandom before, but this is just perfectly done and very funny. Liz Sharpe makes excellent use of the different points of view in telling her tale. She drops a hint here, then another there, and builds joke upon joke, managing to save the best joke for last.

This morning all of the other cadets were practising climbing up the cliffs and rappelling down. Headmaster Cheiron wouldn't let me because I might attract Hera, and Iolaus was afraid he would slip because of his bandages. So instead, Cheiron let us go hunting up in the badlands. It was great. You can still see some of the crucified skeletons from the barbarian encampment, up at the ruined temple.
I have to go now. We have to send our message scrolls and still stop the berserker cultists from making their virgin sacrifice to Ares.
Don't worry about anything. We are fine.
Love, Hercules
