Almost by Z.P. Florian (R)
Fandom: Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy
Pairing: None, really; a couple mentions of Anakin having romantic liasons, but no pairing specifically.
Author on LJ: The author is not on lj, as far as I know.
Author Website: The Darth Side
Why this must be read:
Z.P. Florian has a knack for getting into Vader’s helmet. This story, covering Vader’s thoughts after he takes on the mantle and mask of the Vader we know so well, is a well written piece, made all the more amazing by the fact that it predates Episode 3 yet still manages to echo bits of Anakin from the prequel trilogy. Simultaneously mournful, joyful, and angry, it’s an intteresting – and disjointed- look into what’s going on in Vader’s head.
Excerpt: This has the power to break me. Nothing else had power over me, never had, never will, nothing! not even you, Master - you never had any power over me and you knew it! But this. . . this could . . . break me. . .
You could have let me die, had you an ounce of mercy.
What have I got? An excellent machine that can concentrate fully on the task of helping you conquer the universe. It needs no sleep, no food apart from some nutrient paste, maybe a good oiling once in a while - never feels tired...And can't feel the edge of a blade of grass.

I think s/he has most of his/her Star Wars fanfiction that she has online archived at his/her site the darth side (http://zpdark.tripod.com/index-2.html), or at least most of it. S/he was in a LOT of fanzines, too, so you might want to try looking in them - I'm 99.999% sure that Another Sky (http://www.anothersky.net/) (a Luke fanzine) has some of his/her Luke stories, a couple of which I'm relatively sure aren't on his/her, if you want to sort through there.
Unfortunately, s/he seems to have disappeared from the net post-TPM, so it's almost a guarantee few of the newer archives will have her stuff. :(

I am so happy to see this site and the comments!!
Z.P. Florian is my stepmother (a she). The reason that she's disappeared from the net is Pick's Disease. If you look at her site, you can see that she mentions feeling frustrated and working at less than full brain power. Unfortunately it's gotten much much worse now.
Anyway, I am going through all her stories and illos that I can find at home and on the 'net, and hoping to put together "complete works" kind of thing.
I can't say how glad it makes me feel to know that her work is still out there and people are still reading and enjoying it. Thank you!
