Why this must be read:

Louder Than Words is another story about how John and Aeryn interact after her return from Talyn. What makes this story different, and why I read it so often, is because the author does a nice job at setting the scene and still making it all about the characters through lovely characterization and tension, had things gone this way between seasons three and four. Go forth and read.

Earthquake, he called it.

We're not on Earth, she answered him.

His smile, so infrequent now, faded as the canyons shook harder.

Another crack and this time it registered. That sound wasn't from a weapon at all.

He called out her name and something rammed into her from behind. Making her sprawl on hands and knees, catching herself on jagged stone, broken bits of rock cutting into palms and digging through leathers. She tried to rise, get back on her feet, but the quake was too strong. Viscous. Each attempt only slammed her back to the ground. She was helpless to do anything but wait it out, holding on until the shaking stopped.

All his fault for dragging her on this hike through the narrow crevices of Gamet's canyon country. Let's just walk and talk, he said, but they went metras without uttering a word. She still hadn't thought of anything to say when it started.

It felt like arns although the rational part of her mind knew it lasted bare microts. The tremors stopped but she still didn't trust the ground. She expected the stone to roll away like a bomb bay door and drop her into empty space.

"Are you all right," she called over her shoulder.

"No," he replied with more grunt that actual voice.

She glanced back and her throat squeezed around a gasp.
