Square One by FanfromFla (Rated R)
Fandom: Oz
Pairing: Beecher/Keller
Author on LJ:
fanfromfla
Author Website: fanfromfla at Unit B
Why this must be read: Because the author takes what many fans found difficult to digest, and serves up a very appealing alternate version, everything beautifully tweaked. One of the things I love most about this fic is that it lets Toby be *smart*, and add up 2+2, as shown in this excerpt:
So it was back to square one. Alone. Miserable. Chewing on anger and spite and disappointment. Wanting to love, but brimming with hate. I stewed in it, letting it distract me from the family I had yearned to embrace and the life I had been fighting to regain.
But my job -- that's something I could always do. Think like a lawyer. Check all the angles. Bonnie helped me take a better look at the players in this game, the pieces. I decided I wasn't going to be a pawn.
But the clock was ticking. I had a meeting to arrange.
One of the joys of watching Oz was Toby thinking, plotting, giving us an idea of just how good a lawyer he must have been, and this fic catches that wonderfully. There's some beautifully heart clenching stuff too, and a lovely scene with Bonnie, and ... Oh, just go read it *g* and then tell her how much you love it and would adore seeing more fic from her.
