Blood and Warm Blankets by Kielle [PG-13]

Fandom: LOTR
Pairing: Faramir/Eomer
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kielle and [livejournal.com profile] _redpanda_
Author Website: The Twelfth Ring
Why this must be read:
Kielle had a wicked touch with humour and metafic, and this story is a fine example. The title gives just a hint of what's in store as Faramir and Eomer run headlong into every possible slash cliché.

"This is going to end in sex, isn't it."

Eomer paused and glanced quizzically back over his shoulder. "That's a strange thing to say. What brought that on?"

"Oh come now, can't you see we've been cornered by every cliché in the figurative book?" Faramir shifted the blanket around his bare shoulders and held up one hand, ticking off fingers. "We're stranded in the middle of nowhere, alone, after dark, in a storm. We've taken shelter in a small cave, our clothes are soaked so we have to strip them off, we're probably going to 'have to share body heat to survive the night,' and let's not even get into the fact that last beast tore my arm wide open--"

Blood and Warm Blankets

Kielle passed away on September 22, 2005.

I knew Kielle in her _redpanda_ persona as a Tolkien fan, though I understand she was also a big name in comics fandom. She was a well-known presence in Tolkien fandom as a writer, role-player, and archivist, one of the creators behind Middle-Earth Sock Puppet Theatre, and a founder or mod of the [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes, [livejournal.com profile] mathoms, [livejournal.com profile] silmfics, and many other LJ communities.

Kielle was probably best known for her stories about the men of Rohan, especially her Eomer & Boromir AU, but she also had a wonderfully whimsical sense of humour displayed in metafics such as the story linked above and Nine Men and a Little Lady, *the* classic tale of a LOTR MarySue.

Several of Kielle's stories have been rec'ced here in the past; check the crack_van memories for complete details. And all of her Tolkien stories (as far as I know) are archived at her website, The Twelfth Ring.

P.S. Obviously, this rec won't end with my usual exhortation to give the author feedback. But if you knew Kielle and want to share your condolences with her husband and family, friends of hers have created a temporary messageboard for that purpose.
