Why this must be read:
"In a moment of quiet after the battle of Pelennor Fields, Gandalf reflects upon those who have already departed and those who may yet be lost."
This one grabbed me from the very first lines:
The back of his hands are covered in fine lines, the pattern broken only by brown spots and swollen knuckles. They have always appeared thus for he has no memory of youth. His body arrived, left and was returned to the world aged. This is the way of his kind.
A gentle but not exculpatory story about Gandalf, and the way that he paid with others' lives for the victory he engineered.
