A Call of Nature by M. Fae Glasgow (NC-17)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: M. Fae's Professionals fiction can be found at The Hatstand.
Why this must be read:
M. Fae is another name that raises a great deal of disagreement within Pros fandom. Many like her tendency toward darkness, her bittersweet (or just plain unhappy) endings and her sometime tendency toward kink, but others find her too bleak, harsh, or depressing. Personally, I adore M. Fae.
That said, A Call of Nature is one of her bleaker stories, and one that I love beyond words. Ray Doyle makes a small error in judgment, but the repercussions are far beyond what he expects.
M. Fae has an unflinching honesty, a particular kind of integrity with regard to the "truth" of her narrative; it's an uncommon willingness to the see a story through to the (possibly bitter) end. Her emotional investment resonates and draws a reciprocal response from me.
