The Key and Dead Bolt by Crowswork (PG)

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: none (gen)
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Wolfpup's Den
Why this must be read:

Crowswork is a storyteller in all the best traditions of Sentinel fiction - a mystery to be solved, Blair bashing, Jim bashing, gruff buddy-buddy tenderness, a plot twist or two, bad dates, a dash of mysticism, lots of witty banter, near deaths, narrow escapes, psycho baddies, courage, and guilt told in a brisk and breezy style. What more could a fangirl want? Whenever Crowswork turns up on the New Arrivals page at the Cascade Library I print off the story and settle in for a satisfying bedtime read.

It was hard to pick a story to rec. I considered Lost in which the bad guys try to convince Jim that Blair is a figment of his imagination but decided on The Key and its companion piece, Deadbolt.

Women are being strangled. No one can find the connection between the victims until the case is kicked up to Major Crimes and they discover that Blair knew them all. No one wants to believe it but the forensic evidence is pointing right at Sandburg.

Excerpt from Dead Bolt

"Simon told me you were about half-dead when you insisted on looking for me." Jim was rolling back and forth on the ornate grill work that made up the floor.

"Nah." Blair grinned as he walked toward the kitchen. "I was only one-quarter dead. Found your soggy ass anyway."

"Did I ever thank you for that? You know -- get all gushy and tell you how much it meant and all?"

"Nah."

"Consider it said."
