Why this must be read: At the beginning of S2, the show had a chance to really develop the Helo/Kara friendship. Alas, that never particularly happened. Thankfullywisteria_ provides us with great insight to their friendship in "Live for This."
Here, we get to see these two be friends as they joke, laugh, tease, and taunt. What I love the most about the story is how normal it all feels, and yet both characters are aware nothing is -- or can ever be -- normal again.
"You and Sharon." She leans back against the no-longer-frost-free refrigerator. "Gonna hole up in one of these subdivisions and raise a passel of toast-lets?"
He freezes. She knows she should stop, but there's that stupid voice in her head taunting moremoremore. "That kid of yours will be really cute, Helo. Tall like you, Sharon's black hair, and don't forget that adorable red eye going back and forth –"
"Shut up!"
A battery bounces off the wall an inch from her head. She knows he didn't miss.
Low voice like a feral growl. Like death. "You don't know, Kara. You can't... she...."
"You're right. I don't know. Sorry." She really is. Shouldn't have said anything. She's never been good at the whole emotions thing, but even she can tell that he's hurting. Bad.
