It's raining men today. I've decided that since I'm trying to get all my X-Men recs out of the way before the end of the month, I'll dedicate today to the unusually high number of talented men working in X-Men Comicverse fanfiction.
The New Mutants were a popular team of young mutants who were trained first by Charles Xavier and then by Magneto before splitting off, joining up with Cable, and eventually forming X-Force. This story takes place in an alternate universe where three members of the team who died in canon, didn't, and the team continues to consist solely of the original New Mutant characters. Samy handles the complex emotions the team feels for its former mentor and the different personalities of the characters, as well as making Magneto both sympathetic and terrifying, but what makes this story stand out is that it actually has really well-written comic book action scenes, something that's *rare* in fanfic.
