This month I'm driving for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In this fandom I'm actually a het fan, believe it or not. My ship of choice is Buffy/Spike, but I will be including a few other pairings as well.

When I went to look in the van's memories, I was surprised to find that a whole heap of BtVS classics weren't listed, so this is largely going to be a rec set of old and well-loved favourites.

Why this must be read: I've always had a soft spot for doomed romances, which is why Spuffy presses my buttons so hard. And when it comes to Spuffy, there's no better way to start a rec set than with Barb's wonderfully inventive novel, "A Raising in the Sun," which is one of my favourites in the BtVS fandom. This is one hellofa long, detailed, involving story, dealing with all the reasons that Spike and Buffy shouldn't work, yet finding a way to make them work despite it all. Best of all, "Raising" doesn't take the easy way out, vis a vis the soul issue.

This is a top-notch, well-plotted het fic, and if you like it, there's a completed novel-length sequel easily accessable on Barb's website.

I'm amazed this wasn't recced before. It's a classic! And it begins Barb's wonderful Spuffy AU, which is so much more fun and entertaining than canon, IMHO.

Yeah, I was amazed too. And there's a heap of other classics that haven't been recced as well!

On the plus side, it makes my job really easy :)
