Why this must be read: I adore fics that show the evolution of characters, and the way they interact with each other, and this story is a lovely example of that. Well-written and engaging, this story flows from moment to moment as Pooh shows us Sheppard and Weir gradually moving ever closer to each other.
Their arguments increase in frequency when the Daedalus is docked, but they have never escalated to this level of intensity. His unquestioned loyalty is with her, and their normal modus operandi of standing united against Caldwell's stricter interpretation of protocol makes the current friction more jarring. Everything seems off and wrong. It's hard not to notice; when they are seeing eye-to-eye, everything seems inexplicably effortless and right. He hates this mutual silent treatment and wants to apologize but doesn't know how to formulate the words, too accustomed to (and perhaps spoiled by) the almost telepathic link they've developed. And between the two, she has always had a better grasp on the verbalizations of their undefined relationship.
