Paris, City of Frights by Ailis Neftzer (PG)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairings: none, really (Methos/Amanda UST, Methos/Rebecca implied)
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author Website: http://royaltoby.com/shack/
Why this must be read:
Amanda's in a mood, and Methos decides to throw her a party on All Hallow's Eve. Do you really need to know any more?
It was tough to choose just one of Ailis's stories, as when it comes to writing Amanda, she's da bomb. I've picked this one because it's one of my very favorites, but also because I think it's entirely accessible for those who haven't seen The Raven. It's a fun story, with a little bit of caper thrown in, and lovely guest appearances by Liam and Bert. But it's also got a bit of melancholy in the mix, and gets Methos exactly right. It gives us more of that sparky relationship we saw in Finale and Methuselah's Gift, and it shows all of Amanda's many facets with wonderful, effortless authenticity.
It was a severed hand. Amanda flinched as one might after catching a hint of the Parisian sewers on the breeze, regained her composure, and immediately replaced the lid of the long, bouquet box. Blood and dismemberment were things she had ceased to pay any mind some time ago. Besides, it wasn't as if it were her hand--she hadn't even bothered to read the delivery's accompanying card...
