Kisses by Maxine Mayer (R)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairings: Duncan/Methos (a touch of Methos/Amanda)
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author Website: http://members.tripod.com/~MaxineMayer/index.htm
Why this must be read:
In all the years I've been a Highlander fan, I think it's possible that I've reread this story more than any other. The pacing of it is irresistible, and the dialogue sparkles. Maxine's style is unique, as is her view of the characters, but she has wonderful insight into the questions and dilemmas of immortality. The exchange at the end of this story between Duncan and Methos illuminates so much about both characters -- particularly Duncan -- in a few lines of dialogue, that it's become my touchstone in understanding his character and what drives him. Maxine also creates a world in which Immortals can and do have families, with all the love, laughter, and heartache that comes with them. And since I recced a Gathering story yesterday, I thought Maxine's enticing view of enduring Immortal connections might provide a bit of an antidote.
