Brilliant story tracing five Unification Days in Mal's life. Sharp, heartbreaking, and utterly in character look at his slow recovery from the war, and his rock-solid relationship with Zoe. Wonderful.
“You didn’t have to do that,” Zoë tells him as they run. “We don’t need to call attention to ourselves like that.”
“I got a right to an opinion.” Mal throws his head back, and his eyes flash with sun-reflected gleams. “I got a right to say what I want, never mind their rutting Unification Day.”
Zoë doesn’t say anything, because if he wants to fight, then he wants to live.
