Why this must be read:
Flutesong writes romance without romanticizing the characters, a rare and delightful thing in Mulder/Krycek fandom. In Kingdom Clones, as with many of her fics, there is a clear and tangible buildup of emotion and sexual tension between Mulder and Krycek. This story is steeped in mytharc and features an excellent voice for "The Brit", as he's often referred to in X-Files fandom. The plot is unique and the great banter between the characters lends levity in all the right places.
Deeply touched by Alex's sincere utterance, he'd relaxed and allowed the part of him that had once been so happy with this man to come forth. Stripping each other, kissing endlessly and licking the salty sweat from each other they'd made it into the shower.
His back to Alex's chest, they let the cool spray sluice down and sweeten their skin. Alex nuzzled Mulder's neck and began to whisper in his ear. It had taken Mulder precious moments to understand Alex wasn't saying lust filled nonsense, but telling him of his discovery. Mulder remembered the perfection he felt. Everything he'd always wanted, being held by a strong arm and told important secrets. He'd had the revelation that all along Krycek's whispered secrets had been expressions of love and desire.
