Why this must be read:

For anyone who followed Joss and Tim after Firefly got cancelled, you heard about the script idea they had for attack of Reavers that would lead to Inara being captured and the crew having to rescue her. Personally, I didn’t like the idea -- seemed waaay too much of a take off of the old derogatory cowboy and Indian movies, some of which featured John Wayne. I couldn’t believe that they’d considered.

Flash forward, and I was recced this story by a friend. Based on the author notes, I went into it prepared to absolutely hate it....except I didn’t. juliefortune’s writing was very true to the series and she captured all the characters perfectly post Objects In Space. And the story turned out to be nothing that I really expected while still adhering to the plot idea fronted by Joss and Tim. But don’t take my word for it, go and read it for yourself.

This story? I love. It is really in my Top Three Stories of All Time, Any Fandom - it's possibly my favorite piece of fanfic I've ever read. It really IS that good.

...what do you mean "same as in series"? Could you *please* be specific? Interpretations differ.

I took it to mean that since it's basically a "what if" of a proposed script, so that only canon realized relationships are there (ie, Wash/Zoe and maybe some Mal/Inara and Simon/Kaylee tension). No changed relationship statuses.
