Why this must be read:
Heh, I'm going to confess that I'm lucky to have a flist that does part of my work for me.sdwolfpup recced this in a post and as soon as I read it, I was so glad that she'd recced it now instead of waiting and all of that. SD is right when she says that there's very few writers who get Mal/Inara and manage to translate it to fic. brynnmck captures it incredibly well and makes it the A plot to this wonderful story. Even better, it's one of the most believable post-Serenity movie stories that I've read, and for that reason alone, I love it very much. Since it appears unlikely that we'll get a movie sequel and unlikely that it would happen in the near future if we do, this story serves as a useful epilogue for the loose ends left hanging by Joss.
