Why this must be read:
I had to rec this as my first rec - after all, it is the story that convinced me that I should watch GW. It also convinced me that Heero and Duo *can* make a good couple, once they grow up and if they work at it.
The first part of the story is set during the time they're undercover at the boarding school at the beginning of the series, the second part is later in the series, after Duo was taken prisoner by Oz, and Heero came after him to kill him, and ended up rescuing him instead.
There are 2 endings, set after the end of the series and OAV - disregard ending 1, as it's much less satisfying than ending 2. This is also where the story moves into m/m territory.
Soldiers and Fools (about 3/4 down the page)
"ninmu ryoukai" and "ninmu kanryou" translate as "mission accepted" and "mission completed" respectively. Together with "omae o korosu" (I will kill you), they're Heero's most typical quotes from the series.
