You can absolutely read it without knowing The Faculty. IIRC she just takes the movie's protagonists and starts with the very first scene of the movie, but as she descibes it in the fic you don't have to *see* that either, and then takes them totally different places. You could, however, perhaps look at a few screencaps or something so you have an idea about the look of the pretties.
