STARGATE SG:1/HIGHLANDER (PG-13)

Title: Changing of the Guard by Ecolea
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Seventh Dimension
Why this must be read:

Voted Best Crossover in the 2001 Stargate: SG-1 Fan Fiction Awards, it's bloody brilliant. The dialogue is great, the characterizations dead on, and story mixes Stargate history with Immortal roots quite believably.

Dawson sighed. "I know you mean well, George, and I believe you. But
it's not me you have to convince. It ain't even Adam. It's Methos you
have to sway. And that's a horse of an entirely different color. He's
survived the Game longer than anyone."

"How long?"

"More than five thousand years."

"My sources say ten."

Joe nearly choked on his drink. "And he confirmed this?"

"He doesn't have to. I trust my sources."

Dawson shook his head in disgust. "I don't know what to tell you,
George. However old he is, Methos only got there by being smarter and
more dangerous in his own way than all the rest. You're playing with
fire and if you keep him where he doesn't want to be you'll be holding
a ticking bomb that I can guarantee will someday explode in your face.
Be smart and play it safe. If he wants to go, just turn him loose. No
questions asked."

Hammond nodded. "I hadn't planned on keeping him against his will,
Joe. But I would like to appeal to what is obviously a very powerful
sense of self-preservation."

"Then your reasons better be good. Methos doesn't have any loyalty to
mortal causes. He can't afford it. But if you can convince him that
it's in his own best interest to help you... Look, I don't know what
you guys are up to that could affect the whole world, but hell, he is
technically its oldest living inhabitant. If this is anyone's planet,
Methos'd probably consider it his."

And that's a horse of an entirely different color.

...my brain automatically adds "pale" to the end of that line.

I love Ecolea's Changing of the guard series!
It is my favourite SG/HL crossover :-D
It is brilliant!
I wish Ecolea that didn't disapear from the internet and had continued her series.
Hopefully she is ok.
Thanks for rec'ing it :-)

This might seem like a weird question, but why'd you go with this particular excerpt? It's just I was surprised, because I remember when I first read it part of what kept me eagerly turning pages hitting the scroll bar in the first parts was wondering how much the SGC would find out, and how, and this bit kind of spoils that.

I can't believe this series hasn't already been recced. It is one of my all time fan fiction favorites in any fandom. Intricate plot, great characterization, action, drama, and humor.

Unfortunately, she died several years ago (or at least that is what was reported at the time-you never know on the net). Such a shame. She had several other x-over series (Highlander-Xfiles and Star Trek Voyager-Xfiles) that were really well done as well, and now none of them will be finished. Sigh.

This is one of my favorite Xovers ever, and one that I keep coming back to year after year. Thanks so much ninurta for reccing it so I can enjoy it again!
