Why this must be read:
I think of this story as a real Methos story. A short piece told mostly from the point of view of an original third character, it provides wonderful insight into Methos, into what it means to him to have been Death and how he might deal with his guilt. And it's a great look at what it is like to be in love with Methos, who is so difficult to pin down and get close to. This thoughtfulness, and the delicately wrought sense of longing which suffuses the story are what make it powerful. I still think about it frequently, months after having read it for the first time.
