I would like to publically retract this comment. Given the structure of the story, at the time that I made this comment I was not aware that the author was writing about a very rare phenotype of the disease. Given this information, the medical information does contain some inaccuracies but not nearly as many as I originally perceived, and my comment was defensive and colored by my personal shock at seeing something my children live with every day fictionalized in this manner. I am not deleting my comment because I want others to see what it is I'm apologize for. I apologize to the author for hurting her feelings and being angry and rude. I realize that she meant no harm, and that her story probably did a great deal to spread awareness of this rare and devastating disease in the community.
