Called to Rise by D.L. Witherspoon (R)

Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Author on LJ: None known
Author Website: TV Lit 101
Pairing: Duncan/Methos
Why this must be read: The author has an unusual take on Methos. The characters and plot are drawn in bright, primary colors. This story is just fun!

This is the first in the "Restoration" series by D.L. Witherspoon. Duncan MacLeod and Methos are in an established relationship, and are both working as professors at Seacouver University. The university faculty, and their take on what the two Immortals are up to, still make me laugh. In "Called to Rise", Joe Dawson calls them with the dire news that another Dark Quickening has occured. The Watchers were hoping that the Highlander and his student Adam Pierson might be able to help.

"We have a theory," Gray Morgan explained, closing the physics book he had been reviewing. "Teaching Art History and Linguistics are just covers for MacLeod and Pierson."

"Covers? You think they're some kind of spies or superheroes?" Victoria asked, with a tense laugh. Sure, they both had accents, and were terribly good-looking, but that didn't make them James Bond, did it?

"Actually, we believe they are Interpol agents," Rose Bacall offered. "Their controller is a man named Joe Dawson. He owns a bar of the same name, and we believe it serves as Duncan and Adam's base of operations here in Seacouver."

Read Called to Rise.
