Why this must be read:
While it wouldn't appear so on first glance, Ezra and Vin are really of a kind. They both are loners, liking their freedom more than the boisterous, sometimes overwhelming company of their compatriots. Especially in the ATF and other modern AUs, these two are often paired together as getting into trouble, of one kind or another. In this story, trouble comes after Ezra, but instead of just focusing on the case, Violette explores the relationships between the men. I'm often frustrated in the Mag 7 fandom by stories where Ezra is continually bullied into doing things 'for his own good,' even well-meaning things, like going out to a bar or going camping with the rest of the team. In Silent Memories, we see Ezra as the strong agent he really is -- dealing with his handicaps, managing his teammates, and learning something about himself and them in the process.
