Why this must be read: This one isn't going to be to everybody's taste. Legion says, in the author's notes, I do warn you that we are not dealing with mainstream sexual practices here. At first glance this may look like bestiality, but, as Legion says, it's really psuedo-bestiality. The animal is not really an animal. It's the part of Blair that manifests as his spirit animal. If that's a squick, bail now.
As you may have guessed by now, I'm a sucker for a happy ending...as long as you get there by way of torture (by which I mean, angst). This series is extremely angsty, as Jim deals with the pain of Blair leaving and a debilitating problem with his senses. And yet it's a hopeful story, a story about holding on when you don't think you can, learning to survive things that crush you and still finding a measure of happiness despite it, of the persistence of love.
