Why this must be read:
A fun, action-packed AU adventure story where NSYNC are a team of vigilante crime fighters with cool code-names and superpowers out to stop a super-villain behind a city-wide blackout (that he instigated for nefarious reasons, of course).
I like the fast-paced storytelling and intricate plot. I also like how canon and fanon interpretations of the guys are incorporated into their strengths and weaknesses and these traits complement each other within the group whole. All in all, it is just a delightful read.
Each of their little group had become unsung heroes for their own reasons, but those reasons were also all similar. Chris had been one of the downtrodden, trying his hardest to pull his family up out of their situation. He had taken a gamble with a payoff that would have made everything better, and nearly paid the ultimate price when his "benefactor's" true colors had been revealed. Chris had resolved to never let that happen to another under-privileged family, or anything else he could prevent. Justin had grown up helping families like that, as far grown as he was anyway, Joey had to admit he was an adult now, even if he was the group's Infant. And he was blessed with talent and a personality that made him gifted to do so, so he did. Timberlake couldn't even conceive of living his life any other way. Lance had come at the problem from the other direction, financially blessed and intellectually gifted, but no less determined to use those traits to help the helpless. JC was committed to helping people, using his more unusual gifts to do what he could, his sixth sense both driving him to aid others and giving him an upper hand in doing so.
Joey wasn't so different from JC. They were the closest in age, and JC's abilities had led him to make friends with Joey many years ago. Back when Joey had still been a child happily growing up in his parents' home, except for the fact that he disappeared for a day or three once a year. The first time, he had been too young to coherently relate anything other than his terror when he was returned, miraculously reappearing in the bed he had vanished from in the wee hours of the morning some eighteen hours before. His parents had panicked even more when it happened again fourteen months later, and he stayed gone overnight. Joey had been returned with a sensitivity to light that had given him migraines until he learned to control it, his brother Steve gasping in fright when he saw Joey's eyes shining silver in the moonlight late one night when they had both gotten up for a drink of water. Over the years Joey had realized he was a repeat victim of alien abduction, tabloids and X-Files be damned. He had no recollection of what happened while he was gone, just that it was inherently terrifying. But every time he had been returned, alive and whole... ..and slightly different than before he left. Joey could now do things that nobody else could, and he followed his friend JC's example, using his extraordinary abilities to help other people, to keep them from becoming victims of circumstances beyond their control, the way he had.
