Why this must be read:
This is a great story by one of the many excellent authors in this fandom. Fans may also know Julie Fortune as Roxanne Longstreet Conrad. In this story, the author wonderfully captures the sheer terror Methos feels as he realizes the Double Quickening had some serious repercussions. Like the fact that Silas and Kronos are now able to possess the bodies of Methos and Duncan. Richie, Joe, and Amanda try to fix things, as things steadily get worse.
She looked like a savage, bloody, torn, her clothes in rags. The sexy, self-contained woman was gone entirely, and he saw the real Amanda, the real Immortal—the warrior. She bared her teeth at him, not a smile, and raised her sword to take his head, rage in her eyes. He put up a useless hand to stop her.
"I’m sorry about the car." It was all he could think of to say. It came out bewildered and weak and lost, and he saw something like shock flash in her eyes. Her arms trembled as she fought some inner struggle, and then her sword slowly lowered. "It’s me. Methos."
A long, long hesitation before she said, softly, "Maybe." She grounded the sword’s tip in the rocks, leaned on the hilt for support. She looked appallingly battered, and her voice was hoarse. "Who was it before?"
"Before?" He wasn’t so far into denial that he didn’t understand. "I don’t know."
Her expression went blank and smooth, as if she’d vanished well below the surface of her skin. He knew the look. He’d seen it before, if not on Amanda’s face then on the faces of others. She was holding back memories too bitter to face.
"You know what, I don’t want to know. I don’t care. This is where we part company, Methos. Count your blessings I let you keep your head."
