Why this must be read:
First, this is a nice long read, and there's still relatively few longer stories in the Firefly fanfic verse, even fewer of which are long shippy stories. I am a shipper fic addict, and this being February, the month of love, I absolutely had to start with a pairing-centric fic.
Counter to a lot of Simon/Jayne stories, it's Jayne, not Simon, that first begins to find their no-strings sexual relationship untenable. This highly angsty fic slowly draws together a shuttered Simon and an emotionally thick-headed Jayne down a rocky path (filled with lots and lots of sex) toward happiness.
There's a nice blend of ribaldry and plot, plus an examination of the potential complications of a Simon/Jayne relationship, including how it affects their relationships with some of the other people aboard Serenity.
