Why this must be read: I love on-tour stories and this one, taking place during the Never Gone tour, is a very fine example. It's funny and comfortable, with good characterisations, and the dialogue and interaction between the guys feels spot-on. It's as much a story about the friendship between the Boys and their daily life as it is about Nick and his feelings for Howie and what's happening between them. A wonderful example of all the things I love best about popslash.
Excerpt: Nick pretends everything's fine with Howie that night, and the next day, and the day after that, and soon he forgets that things weren't hunky-dory between them. He also forgets that he mocked Brian for saying 'hunky-dory' just last week. God, he hangs out with freaks.
Take now, for example: Freak A is running around the stage with a lacy bra tired around his head, whilst Freak B whips his ass with another bra. Freak C, also known as Howie, is laughing so hard he's holding on to the piano to stay upright. Out of breath and happy is a good look on him.
Nick's trying not to pay too much attention to how lickable he looks, but, damn. Howie's eyes are sparkling and his cheeks are flushed, and he's not made of stone, people! Not much of him, anyway. He thanks the wardrobe mistress (who AJ has not hit on, fortunately) for the bagginess of his pants and decides to step into the fray before he does something stupid, like grab Howie and -
Okay, not going there. Distraction, he needs a distraction!
