Why this must be read:
This is a gorgeous AU (written for DWNOGA 2005) in which JC is the owner of a yarn shop, and AJ sells skateboards. I covet this JC characterisation more than I can say. He's got the cute and fluffy side and, at the same time, he's a smart and capable businessman. We need more stories in which JC is both intelligent and adorable.
I thoroughly approve of AUs which feel so authentic. There is attention paid to the details of JC's work and life, which don't take over the story but which set it most convincingly. Oh yes, and there is a plot! A real problem which our heroes have to work to overcome, which isn't particularly related to their romantic relationship but which makes their lives seem real.
Also, it is very sexy indeed.
"Oh, fuck me. You're one of them."
This cocky superiority was really starting to get on JC's nerves, even if the guy had the balls to back up the attitude. "One of who?"
"One of them. 'Oh, I fall in love with people, not bodies,'" AJ crooned in falsetto. "That's fucking bullshit. Bodies matter." AJ's cigarette died a quick death under his heel. "You don't get to say shit like that until you've had your had your mouth on another man's dick."
JC blinked. "Um. Right. Sure. Like that would prove something."
"Sure as fuck would." Shoving his hands deep in his pockets, AJ stepped closer. "You ever even touched another guy? Ever jerked anyone besides yourself?" The glass of the window was unyielding against JC's back, and still AJ sauntered forward, crowding him. "You ever even kissed a guy?"
"N-no. But it's not like that—"
"It's just like that." AJ checked his watch. "But in another three minutes, it won't be like that any longer."
