Why this must be read:
I almost missed this because it was modestly presented as simple fluff when in reality it's one of the warmest, most touching post-war fics I've read in a fandom that has many. This is just one of those stories that stays with you, in that secret place under your cold cynical fandom-weary heart.
Eugene once asked why they wintered up north and summered in the south, noting the lack of logic. Yet, it has nothing to do with rational thought, only sentiment. The swamps come alive in the summer—full of thunderous skies and clouds of insects. The noise is constant and low—the stink of water something ugly and beautiful. And Philadelphia…well, Heffron always says that it isn’t Philly without dirty snow and early nights.
