Oh the angst. This would have to be one of my absolute favourite stories in any fandom.

Dan Rydell is nineteen years old, a college student at Dartmouth and nearly drowning in the struggle to stay afloat one year after his brothers' death. He buries himself in work and meaningless sex, never letting anyone get too close. That is until he meets a young reporter named Casey McCall who is bound and determined to make him his friend.

As with all her Sports Night fic's, k has a firm grasp on the characters and the feelings they grapple with. It's pre-slash, but you can see the beginnings of the wonderful rapport that Dan and Casey share both professionally and personally. And watch out for the wonderful original character, Alex. He's so fully developed in his few short scenes that by the end of the story, you feel like you've known him forever.
