Why this must be read:

I'm not a Peter/Claire shipper (nor do I read much het), but this fic sells me on their love as romantic and sexual in a way that I think no other story could.

Above all, this is a carnal story, as Claire's power, which Peter shares, is carnal. Taking her starting point in the ruthlessly physical process of regeneration, Kate Andrews paints a vivid, detailed, almost shockingly sensual image of Peter's lust for Claire and the mingled feelings of love and guilt, of need and attempted denial that go with it. The result is stunningly beautiful and achieves a level of intensity that is astounding. And did I mention how hot it is?

The first time Peter sees Claire naked is after they burn alive together, burn to a crisp, to a cinder, to the bone. He wakes up on the ground, in the ashes, feeling the deeply, unimaginably wrong sensation of his guts and muscles growing back. He knows he's on his side and then suddenly, his eyes are working even though his eyelids aren't. Aren't there yet.

It's his first time but she's done this before; she's got experience; she's faster. Before his throat regrows, she's covered in taut, baby-smooth skin. She's kneeling next to him, resting her hands on her knees at his eye level. Her cotton-candy nail polish doesn't grow back, of course, and neither do any of her clothes, but the fine, blond hairs on the top of her left thigh have. Her right leg is still coming together and as he watches, the red flesh crawls down the bone. She waits for him to finish and watches, blinking those wide, innocent eyes. "It'll stop hurting soon," she says, and she's right.
