Why this must be read:

The author describes it as "A grittier interpretation of how the ATF team might have formed."  It is - and it's wonderful because of it.  It's a darker universe, taking all of the characters and bending them just a little - but just perfectly and perfectly together.  It's complete within itself, but I am very much hoping that she's going to keep on with this universe, giving us more of them and how they get to know each other.  Very nicely done.

i second this rec. i'm utterly grateful to MOG for coming up with the ATF universe, but i happen to prefer this interpretation of ATF Team 7's beginnings. it's just more realistic overall, i think, and i especially like how JD plays in the team's formation. i'll refrain from more praise, lest it contain too many spoilers. :-)
