In the Shadow of My Father by Alphie (PG-13)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Lois/Richard, Superman, Jaso
Length: ten chapters
Author on LJ:

Author Website: http://alphielj.livejournal.com/tag/fan+fic
Why this must be read:
Because Alphie does a beautiful, realistic, heartbreaking job of laying out what happens to a relationship built on misunderstandings, half-truths, and lies of omission. And all you have to do is take the situation at the end of Superman Returns, assume Clark is as bad at talking with people as he always is, and project things fifteen years into the future.
At the end of Superman Returns, five-year-old Jason knows that Superman is Clark Kent, but neither his mother Lois nor his step-father Richard do. He's kept that secret ever since. In fifteen years, his biological father Superman never told Jason he loves him. Superman hadn't tried to be a father to him, and seemed disappointed in how human Jason is. Jason responded by growing angry and resentful, and cutting off all contact. Now, he's about to get married, and to make things work with the woman he loves, he has to deal with his relationship with his father.
Dad laughed. “Jason, you know Lois doesn’t care for Kate. Why would you ever think that your mom would be okay with this?”
“Mom liked Kate just fine when they first met.”
“Yes, she did. Until Kate mentioned how much she hated a certain someone in a red cape.”
“Don’t,” I warned, shooting him a nasty look.
“Well, Jason, it does seem a little odd that you’d want to spend your life with someone who…well…has those kinds of feelings.”
“I don’t think it’s odd at all,” I bit. “Her feelings are the same as mine. We agree on something that’s very important to me.”
“Jason,” he groaned. “It’s a little different for you.”
“Yeah, and I’m tried of being a little different.”
