The Window by Beth (R)
Previously on Popslash: "And we wouldn't be here now, wrapping Christmas presents. I think it's a good trade, don't you?"
Today on Popslash: The Window
Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing Chris/Justin

Author Website: Unaware: Beth
Why this must be read:
He's sitting in the rear of the apartment and gazing out over the courtyard at the back of the building directly across from his. Since it's so hot, everyone has windows open and shades up, and so Chris can see pretty well what's going on in other people's lives.
Rear Window is a classic Hitchcock movie, and though it's been copied many, many times, it's always nice to see it done well. Beth takes the concept and reworks it with pop characters, making for an interesting story. This is classified as an AU--Chris isn't a pop star, he's a paparazzi photographer (which makes me snicker every time I read the story), Joey is a cop, not a Broadway star. You get the idea.
Even though the ending is predictible, Beth creates mystery by introducing the other characters Chris sees in the window. The Job Seeker, Dancer, Hippie Boy, and Honeymooners all make you sit down and try to figure exactly who they might be in real life. That's the beauty of pop fiction: you can put them in any situation, but there are still clues that let you know who's who. (Okay, that might just be the beauty of all AU fiction, ever, but go with me here.)
Rear Window has an IMDb page.
Main Characters:
Chris plays Jimmy Stewart's character, a bored invalid with a big window.
Justin is Grace Kelley, sometime lover of Chris/Jimmy.
Supporting Characters:
Trace. Heathcare worker.
Cop, and my secret boyfriend.
Kim and Marshall Mathers.
Hippie Boy.
Job Seeker.
The Dancer.
(I don't know who the Honeymooners are.)
