Why this must be read: This fic takes a single experience from Lucy's time on the Dawn Treader- reading the Magician's Book- and draws it out into a set of gorgeous, terrible, heartbreaking moments. Particularly moving is Peter and Lucy's grief for the loss of Susan (how strange and sad, that Lewis thought the children would be happy in any heaven that separated them forever from their family!). The last line of this story is stunning- both cruel and kind to Lucy, just like Lewis was.
At the end of a long hallway, at the top of a staircase on an island somewhere to the east of Narnia, there lies a book.
