This story is part of the Little Britches (ATF) Universe, where JD and Vin are orphaned children 5, and 7 respectively who find a home with Chris Larabee and Buck Wilmington, and their friends Ezra Standish, Nathan Jackson and Josiah Sanchez forming The Magnificent Seven.
In a lot of stories, we usually see Ezra as a more distant part of the Seven, one that is not always fully accepted. This story is a brillant part of the LB universe where we get to experience bonding between Ezra and the two boys. The boys show Ezra through the innocent ideas of children that he does have a permanent place in their group.
