"The Murder of Crows (Blackhawk Down Remix)" by Lizbeth Marcs (PG)

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

Pairing: Sam/Kara (background only. Not a shippy fic)

Length: in 2 parts

Author Website: (or a link to where more of their fic is archived) here

Why this must be read: A haunting, lyrical, thought-provoking, [insert superlative adjective of choice] story covering the four month gap in between the initial arrival of the Cylons on New Caprica and the start of Season 3. Told from Sam Anders' point of view, but looking at the various members of the New Caprica Resistance, how/why the occupation went disastrously wrong (from the Cylon perspective), Boomer's ambiguous role, etc.

Spoilers for early Season 3. Also, very vague spoilers for episode 3.20 but you'd pretty much need to have seen the episode to realise they're spoilers.

Exerpt:
Tory snorts. “A Doral visited the school today. Right now he’s chewing Laura's ear off about improving the environment. When I left, he was offering to visit again with,” she makes a show of comically shuddering, “paint chips. He thinks if we paint the classroom interior using cheerful colors it’ll lift everyone’s spirits.”

“Unh, did someone tell him that before you can paint a classroom, you actually have to have a classroom to paint?” Tyrol asks.

I'm so glad you recced this! It's possibly the best fic about the Dylan four I've ever come across. The foreshadowing around Sam and the others just gives me chills.
