Star Wars/Indiana Jones

Title: The Black Sleep by Carolyn Golledge
Fandom: Star Wars/Indiana Jones
Pairing: None; mentions of Han/Leia, but that's not the focus.
Length: 34 pages in Adobe Reader.
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

While the idea of Han Solo and Indiana Jones meeting up is obvious, it's rarely explored in-depth. Carolyn writes a situation that intertwines Han's carbonite freezing and Indiana's experience with Kali Ma. References to Jones' expertise on the occult helps to blend the two worlds together. And there's no Willie! Yay!

Interesting tidbit: This fic was originally published in the fanzine Tremor in The Force #5 back in 1989. Since then, Carolyn is the only fanfic author I've heard of who has gone on to write canon.

I'm intrigued, but there's no link to the story...

Thanks for the link! I'm totally reading this!

Also, I can think of a couple of fic writers who have gone on to write canon, although only with comic books. The companies they work for tend to not want to be associated that closely with fan-based work, so the authors usually distance themselves from it. Even talking face-to-face to an openly ex-fic writer, he wouldn't tell me what pseudenym he'd once used or what fandom he was in.

Actually, one fandom author I know of who went on to write canon is Melissa Good, who wrote some great Xena: Warrior Princess stories (femmeslash, or "alt" as it was called in that fandom) early in the show's run, and then was hired by the producers to write scripts for the actual show. She's also published some of her uber-Xena/Gabrielle work in print.

But X:WP had an unusually-supportive relationship between the producers and the fans.

At least one other fanwriter has gone on to write professionally. Karen Miller, who wrote fanfic some years ago, is currently writing a novel set during the Clone Wars.
