Why this must be read: This is actually the first of 3 fics that eventually become NC-17, and I've linked them below as well. It's another AU, but this time it's set in 1940's England; Mal is the captain of the American bomber Serenity, and Simon is a doctor at the base.
itinerant_vae is one of my favorite Firefly writers, and this series is a perfect example of why. The emotions are powerful, and she flawlessly translates the 'verse and its characters into this setting - not to mention the smokin' hot smut. This is romangst* at its finest.
